Congratulations to Sophie Irving, 2017 WHiPA Lloyd Morrison Pathway to Podium Scholarship Recipient. Sophie is 14 years old and currently attends Wellington East Girls College. She has been swimming competitively since 2011, swimming for Capital Swim Club in Wellington under Head Coach Gary Hollywood. Sophie’s passion and drive for swimming comes from a love of the water apparent from a young age. Her preferred stroke is backstroke but she’s looking to improve the others.
Congratulations to Thomas Watkins, 2017 WHiPA Lloyd Morrison Pathway to Podium Scholarship Recipient.
Thomas is a competitive swimmer from Capital Swim Club in Wellington, coached by Gary Hollywood. He has a love of backstroke and individual medley events.
In the past 12 months he has won 2 national bronze medals and 5 national silver medals, as well as gaining selection as part of the Swimming New Zealand team, travelling to Australian Age Championships earlier this year
At a function last night, Wellington High Performance Aquatics presented the 2016 Lloyd Morrison Aquatic Scholarships to local athletes, coaches and officials. Starting in 2009, she was originally part of the Levin Swimming Club, until she moved to Raumati Swimming Club two years ago.
