Congratulations to WHiPA Lloyd Morrison Reaching for the Podium scholarship recipient Joel Crampton.

Congratulations to swimmer Joel Crampton who has been awarded a WHiPA Lloyd Morrison Reaching for the Podium scholarship.

Joel Crampton, 16, currently swims with the Capital Swim Club under coach Gary Hollywood.

Joel has been competing at a national level since he was nine, and has won numerous national titles and more than 30 Wellington records. In his first year at Tawa College he was awarded the Sportsman of the Year and that year also won the Swimming Wellington selectors trophy for the most Wellington records by any Wellington swimmer over that period.

At Joel's first New Zealand Age Group national championships held a couple of months after he won five NZ Junior titles, he went on to get a silver medal in the Boys 12-13 years 200m butterfly. He won the same event in that age group the following year. Both were Wellington records.

Last year at his first zonal championships, Joel won the U16 200m butterfly while still 14.

Last December, as a member of the Wellington All Stars Team, Joel won a silver medal at the Victoria State Championships in the 15-years 200m butterfly, again in a personal best time.

Joel hopes that the WHiPA scholarship will provide him with important support as he seeks to achieve further in the sport.

Congratulations Joel!
