Congratulations to WHiPA Lloyd Morrison Aquatic Athlete Scholarship recipient, swimmer Lewis Clareburt.
Lewis (18) has been with the Capital Swim Club since he first started competitive swimming at 8 years old.
His main event is the 400 Individual Medley, but at New Zealand Age Group Championships 2018 this year he won 8 Age Group Titles over different events, which he did also the previous year as a 17 year old. At this years NZ Age Group Champs it earned him the Life Members Trophy for outstanding swimmer.
Currently he holds 8 Wellington Open Long Course Records, and 20 Age Group Long Course Records.
He also has the New Zealand Open Record for 400 IM which he broke at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast with a time of 4.14.42 (previously set at 4.17.72) which earned him the Bronze Medal at the Games and qualified him for the Pan Pacific Championships in Japan later this year.
Lewis also holds 6 New Zealand Age Group Records. Last year he won the NZ Emerging Swimmer of the Year 2017 and Maori Junior Sportsman of the Year 2017
He won the Wellington Emerging Sportsman of the Year 2017, and this year he has been nominated for the 2018 Wellington Sportsman of the Year.
